My wife went a route that made it so that the Cragheart wasn’t adjacent to monsters a lot, so playing the ‘standard’ single-target high damage melee Scoundrel was often difficult. Not sure how popular this opinion is, but as someone who just started playing Gloomhaven, I really appreciate the alternate builds. Honestly, nothing against the creator of the original Cragheart guide, as I'm sure it suits a lot of players, but the alt build is much more interesting to me (just my opinion) than another ranged build.

Piercing bow is good but cragheart has plenty of other ways to deal with shields. Volatile bomb also has the advantage of being one-handed so you can pair it with a shield. Or also bringing an at Prosp 7 or whatever it is. It really depends what build you are going for cragheart.
