I've always been obsessed with asian supermarkets. Nijiya Market takes my obsession to a whole new level. Warning: Do not shop here while hungry. You will want to bring home everything! I love love love the huge selection of sushi, sashimi, bento boxes, chirashi bowls, and side dishes in the ready-to-eat section at the front of the supermarket. I think Nijiya's prepared foods are decently tasting and reasonably priced. They do have various sales where one of their prepared items are like a buck off. Most of the time, it's going to be better to reheat the food, especially if it's fried, as they're all being refrigerated. The prices are reasonable as well, my family buys Nishiki rice brand and Nijiya is the cheapest as compared to other stores. It's almost a $10 difference and the price Nijiya hasn't changed. When I step into Nijiya it's like stepping into a shop in Japan, this store has a more neighborhood feel as compared to the Ala Moana Shopping Center location. A while ago Nijiya used to advertise that they are the organic Japanese market. Here's my general assessment between the three main Japanese grocery stores in West LA. Marukai has the best prices, Nijiya has a lot of organic and quality options, Mitsuwa has the book store and is a good place to go if you can't find what you're looking for ...

After Nijiya's, I had one more stop before returning home and I feared for the spoilage of my chirashi and frozen items. Luckily, there was a cooler of ice by the entrance where you can bag the ice and use it as cold packs. I really should award 5 stars just for that extra touch of service.
